You’ve read enough to know an agent could take real work off your plate. Now you’ve got the practical questions: do I need to code, which Claude path is mine, is it safe, how long will it take?
These are the questions I get most, answered as of October 2026. Products move fast, so where an answer depends on a feature, I point you to Anthropic’s official docs, starting with the Claude Code overview.
For the full picture, start with the Claude agent overview, see how my own chief of staff runs on Claude Code as an AI agent, or follow the 30-day training path. New to agents altogether? The AI agents guide covers the basics.

Straight answers
Do I need to code to build a Claude agent?
No, not to design one. The job description, the process, the skills and the guardrails are written in plain language, and that’s the most important work. You’ll want a technical helper for setup, connections and scheduled runs, and custom builds through the Agent SDK or the API are developer work. Start with https://ai-agents.benlovro.com/claude/./
What's the difference between Claude Code and the Agent SDK?
As of October 2026, Claude Code is Anthropic’s finished agentic tool, and the Claude Agent SDK is the agent harness behind it, made available for developers building their own agents. Use Claude Code for an internal agent that runs your operations. Use the SDK when the agent has to live inside your own software. More at https://claude-agents.benlovro.com/claude-agent-sdk/./
What are Claude Managed Agents?
Managed Agents is an Anthropic-hosted agent harness, in beta as of October 2026. You define the agent — model, system prompt, tools, MCP servers and skills — choose Anthropic’s cloud sandbox or a self-hosted environment, and run sessions. It supports scheduled recurring runs and multiple agents working together. See https://claude-agents.benlovro.com/claude-managed-agents/./
What is a Claude skill?
A skill is a folder of instructions an agent loads when a job calls for it. Think of it as an SOP the agent knows when to use. I turn my written processes into skills so my chief of staff can handle many jobs without one giant set of instructions. How to write one: https://claude-agents.benlovro.com/claude-agent-skills/./
Can Claude Code run on its own without me?
Yes. Headless mode lets a script or schedule start Claude Code with nobody typing, and routines are scheduled or event-triggered cloud tasks, as of October 2026. My AI chief of staff runs headless on a dedicated Mac mini and does much of its work overnight. Only go unattended after the job works reliably while you watch.
Is it safe to give a Claude agent access to my business tools?
It’s as safe as the access you design. Start read-only, add write access one tool at a time, require human approval for anything sent to customers, anything financial and anything irreversible, and read the logs. Keep client and sensitive data out unless your settings and AI policy allow it.
Why does Ben use Claude instead of Grok or Muse for his own agent?
Different jobs. Claude is my pick for building your own agent, because it gives me the parts to shape an agent around my business. For a ready-made business agent my pick is Grok Business, and for personal life it’s Muse. The reasons and the due diligence are at https://ai-agents.benlovro.com/best-ai-agents/./
How long does it take to learn to build a Claude agent?
I lay out a 30-day path with weekly checkpoints: daily use and instructions, then skills and one tool connection, then a first unattended routine with logs, then a second specialist and a scoreboard. Pass each checkpoint before moving on. The plan is at https://claude-agents.benlovro.com/claude-agent-training/./
Can a Claude agent call or text my customers?
Be careful here. The FCC ruled in February 2024 that AI-generated voices count as ‘artificial’ voices under the TCPA, so robocall consent rules apply. Business texting needs consent and A2P 10DLC registration, Do Not Call applies, and people should know when they’re dealing with AI. Talk to counsel before any agent contacts anyone.
What is MCP and why does it matter for Claude agents?
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard for connecting AI agents to tools and data. Anthropic created it and donated it to the Agentic AI Foundation under the Linux Foundation. It’s how an agent reaches your calendar, email or CRM. Plain-English guide: https://ai-agents.benlovro.com/model-context-protocol/./
Can someone build a Claude agent for my business?
Yes. Chief is my done-with-you AI chief-of-staff install for owners who want an agent running real operations; see https://benlovro.com/chief. For custom agents and automation across a company, my AI company ClientPro does that work at https://clientpro.ai.
